Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at the back of Jianshanying, Jinzigou Township, Ninglang County, Yunnan. It was named after Luguhu Lake by Dong Zhizhong in 1986.

Homonym: There is also a LuguhuTri in same region; same Chinese spelling for same lake!


Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. A neritic pure carbonate rock formation, divided into two members: Lower Xie’erci Member, composed of purple-gray and light-gray thick-bedded bioclastic powder- to fine-crystalline limestones, 15 m thick. Upper Huajiaoping Member consists of light-gray thick-bedded powder- to fine-crystalline and skeletal limestones, powder- to medium-crystalline grain limestones and bioclastic limestone, 70 m thick

Conformable contact with the underlying Jianshanying Fm

Fossils

Xie’erci Member contains Fusulinid Eostaffella, foraminifers, crinoids and the Conodont Declinognathodus lateralis-D. noduliferus zone. Huajiaoping Member contains Fusulinids Fusulinella, Profusulinella and Pseudostaffella as well as corals and foraminifers. The Conodonts comprise the upward succession of Neognathodus symmetricus-Idiognathoides corrugatus zone, the Idiognathodus sinuosus zone, the Neogondolella clarki zone, the Streptognathodus cancellosus zone and the S. oppletus-S. elegantulus zone.
